Be sure to enter early to take advantage of our discounted early entry fee!
We're looking forward to seeing you in 2018!
As I write this, the “Winter of the Frozen Tundra” is going on outside with all its various shades of dreary grey. With such a desolate backdrop, it seems surreal to be touting an outdoor equestrian sport, but such is the reality of our fickle climate!
Entries for the 2018 Derby and Derby Within a Derby open March 12. Through April 12, they will be offered at a discounted price. From April 13 through April 16, they will cost an additional $15. Stabling at Lamplight Equestrian Center for Derby entries is included. One night stabling for the Derby Within a Derby will be available.
Derby divisions offered are Starter, Beginner Novice, Novice, Training and Preliminary/Training. The latter division, new this year, will offer 2018 USEF Preliminary Test A, one jumping round at Training height, and a second round at Preliminary height.
Derby Within a Derby, Starter and Beginner Novice entries will all ride 2018 USEF Beginner Novice Test A; Novice will ride the 2018 USEF Novice Test, and Training the 2018 USEF Training Test. This is the first event in Area IV to offer the new 2018 Dressage tests, which can be found on the Derby website: www.wayneeventingderby.org.
Returning this year are the popular “extras” that make the Derby special. The Ride A Test before a USEF judge and supervised jump schooling take place on Friday, 4/20. Beginner Novice, Novice and Training divisions will again offer best score awards to T.I.P. (Thoroughbred Incentive Program) eligible Thoroughbreds, presented by The Jockey Club. Sunday will feature the Move Up Challenge, a successful addition last year, which gives riders the chance to jump a course at the level above their entry. Shoppers can indulge their passion at Little Foxes’ lovely vendor area.
Prize lists and entry blanks will be available on the Derby website along with more detailed Derby information as they become available.
The Derby Committee has made some new tweaks to the Derby format to make it be even more fun for everyone. Mark your 2018 calendar for April 20-22 at Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne!
Opening day is March 12. Enter at a discounted price up until midnight of April 12. From that time through midnight of April 16, entries will be accepted with an additional $15.00 late fee.
The Derby Within A Derby was designed as an introduction to the sport. If a professional wants to enter, he or she will be encouraged to do so at HC staus (without honors).
The TIP (Thoroughbred Incentive Program) entry form can be found in the TIP file on this website. Please fill it out completely prior to picking up your packet. TIP awards are offered at Beginner Novice, Novice and Training level.
The Preliminary Division has been replaced with the Preliminary/Training (PT) Division This will consist of the current USEF Preliminary dressage test with a jump round of Training dimensions on Saturday, and a jump round at Preliminary dimenrions on Sunday.
The Move Up Challenge is offered againin 2018 at the same low cost. Training riders will be welcome to have a go at the Sunday PT jump course as a part of the Challenge. For the same low fee, riders may also jump another round at their original level, not to be judged.
Anyone requesting a specific time for the Ride A Test on Friday is asked to make that request when entering, and to send the request by email to email@example.com.
